Mixing consoles are the vital pieces of PA equipment that allow you to control and adjust each audio input (e.g. a microphone) before sending it to the speakers.
Microphones - Each microphone you intend to use at your event will require a dedicated input channel on the mixing console. As such the greater the number of microphones being used the more channels that are required. Certain microphones also require a facility called phantom power.
On stage monitors - If you are using on-stage monitoring you will need to consider how many auxiliary mixes you need your mixing console to provide. Events with just speech may only require one or two auxiliary mixes whereas events with live music may require up to eight auxiliary mixes.
Direct channel outputs - If you intend to record certain aspects of your event such as keynote speakers you may require a mixing console that allows direct output from each channel for connection to a recording device such as an MP3 recorder, laptop or CD recorder.|
